Get to Know Perimeter College

Your choice in college is pivotal in your adult career. Some schools seem to have it all, but they may not be the best choice for your studies or your wallet.

Not sure where to begin? Perimeter College offers flexible learning that works around your schedule, affordable credits that easily transfer to the Atlanta campus and practical skills to jumpstart your career. We will discuss more details further, so keep reading below.

What is Perimeter College?

Perimeter College is a two-year school within the Georgia State family that offers students access to higher education. The five college campuses (Alpharetta, Clarkston, Decatur, Dunwoody, Newton) offer online learning with smaller, personalized classrooms.

Whether you attend classes remotely or on campus depends on your schedule. Perimeter has one of the largest online course offerings in the University System of Georgia. This learning is ideal for students looking to maximize their busy schedules while achieving their academic goals.

Class Size, Diversity and Transition to Four-Year Degree?

Most two-year schools’ class sizes are around 25-35 students. Perimeter College’s typical class size is 18 students per professor, which is great for students looking for a more personalized approach to learning.

Diversity is also central to the school. Out of the 18,500 students that enroll in Perimeter, nearly 28% are the first of their families to attend college. Military students also have numerous resources at Perimeter. Military student advocates serve around 750 military-connected students on the five campuses to best support their use of VA benefits.

Students looking to continue their studies toward a bachelor’s degree have the option to transition to Georgia State’s downtown Atlanta campus. Students who earn a 2.0 GPA and 30 credits or higher can transition to the Atlanta campus to ease into the four-year experience.

What Programs are Offered at Perimeter College?

Students can choose from over 30 degrees Pathways while attending school. The science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs at Perimeter College are a gateway to computer science, biology and engineering careers.

Nursing and dental hygiene associate pathways are academically rigorous programs created to launch graduates into their careers. These programs have provided a head start to students who’ve become space and rocket scientists, medical doctors and engineers.

Film and Media studies also provide a solid foundation for those who wish to pursue careers in film. Former film student Sue-Allen Chitunya (A.A., A.S. ‘05; B.A.‘10) graduated from Perimeter College and became a regular in blockbuster hits. Ultimately, her start at Perimeter was the launchpad for her future invitation to the Oscars.
