A few months before the expiration date of your license, a renewal notice will be sent to the email address on the record. This notice will explain how to access your online renewal application in DELPROS, our online professional licensure system. To complete the online renewal application, you must log-in to your account, answer questions, and use a credit card to pay your renewal fee.
All notices about professional licenses, such as renewal and audit notices, will be sent by email only. It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date so that all the notices we send reach you. To check and update your contact information online, click on Manage Profile link in DELPROS.
This requirement does not apply to Telehealth Registrations.
The Delaware Board of Nursing revised its regulations to add a requirement that nurses provide workforce data upon renewal and reinstatement. This data will be collected using Nursys e-Notify. You will need to register and maintain an account with the free Nursys e-Notify service as a renewal requirement.
To register and complete the requested information go to nursys.com/enotify. If you do not complete this workforce data in e-Notify prior to renewal, your license will be placed on hold until it is completed and has been verified.
If you already have an e-Notify account go into your account and update it with your DE license information.
Specific Instructions to create a new e-Notify account:
Once you have registered, you can go into your account and complete or update the required information. For future renewals, this must be done within the year prior to your current license expiration date.
This requirement does not apply to Telehealth Registrations.
You must complete the required CE per the Board’s Rules and Regulations (see Section 9.0) within the two-year licensure period. How many hours of CE are required for your first renewal depends on when your license was initially issued.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licenses expire on February 28 of even years (e.g., 2020, 2022). During renewal, you must attest that you have completed the required continuing education (CE) and that you have practiced Nursing at least 1,000 hours in the past five years or 400 hours in the past two years.

Registered Nurse (RN) licenses expire on February 28, May 31, or September 30 of odd years (2019, 2021). The expiration month depends on when your license was originally issued. All newly issued RN licenses expire on September 30 of odd years.
An active license must be renewed in DELPROS before the expiration date. During renewal, you are asked to attest that you have completed the required continuing education units (CEs) and that you have practiced Nursing at least 1,000 hours in the past five years or 400 hours in the past two years.

Your Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license expires on the same date as your Delaware RN license. If you do not hold a Delaware RN license, your APRN license expires on September 30 of odd years.
If you hold a Delaware RN license, you must renew it before renewing your APRN license. If you do not hold a Delaware RN license, your compact RN license must have a future expiration date.
During renewal, you must attest that you have met one of the following practice requirements in the role and population focus area in which you are licensed:
This Telehealth Registration expires on September 30 of odd-numberd years (2019, 2021). An active license must be renewed in DELPROS every two years before the expiration date.

If you hold an active license but are not practicing in Delaware, excluding telehealth registrations, you may request to place your license in inactive status by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. You must request inactive status before your late renewal period ends. You cannot practice in Delaware while your license is in inactive status.
If you are a RN who holds an active APRN license, you must also request that your APRN license is placed on inactive status. You cannot practice as an APRN while your RN license is in inactive status.
Note: If you are a Delaware APRN who is licensed as an RN in a compact state other than Delaware, you must notify the Delaware Board of Nursing of any change in the status of your RN license.
A RN and/or APRN with an inactive license cannot practice or volunteer in that professional capacity. However, you may use the title “RN – Inactive” and/or “APRN – Inactive” while your license is in inactive status.
To maintain your inactive license, you must renew it in DELPROS before the expiration date. (Your license expiration date will remain the same.) Renewal will keep your license in inactive status for two more years.
To resume practicing as a RN or LPN in Delaware, you must reactivate your license by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. For more information on requesting inactive status or reactivating an inactive license, see Section 6.6.2 of the Board’s Rules and Regulations. However, there is no continuing education or practice requirement to keep your license in inactive status. Submit the required documentation along with the correct processing fee.
If you fail to reactivate during the period, your license will terminate. If you wish to resume practicing after your license has terminated, you must reapply in DELPROS as a new applicant.
If you do not renew your license before the expiration date, your license will expire. It is illegal to practice in Delaware while your license is expired.
You may file a late renewal application within two months after the expiration date in DELPROS. You must pay a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. Even though you can file a late renewal application, do not resume practicing until your license is actually renewed to active status. The late period is not a “grace period.”
If you fail to renew within two months, the license will terminate. To resume practicing in Delaware, for non-telehealth registrations, you must apply to reinstate your license in DELPROS. For telehealth registrations, you must apply as a new applicant in DELPROS.
